Künstlerhaus Wien co-produced this guidance from Nora Ebeling and Viktor Riad, attorneys at law based in Germany. It has extensive guidance for those without German citizenship to engage with artist visas. Whilst it is specifically oriented around Germany, there are sections of advice and consideration that apply to the UK, and it is a useful model for how a culture worker might also approach engaging with the process.
“The problems begin with the fact that German public authorities are often very difficult
to reach — diplomatic missions and consular posts abroad in particular. This is also because
the offices’ structural resources are inadequate. It is particularly noticeable in countries in
which the diplomatic missions or consular posts are closed due to armed conflicts or the rule
of terrorist regime, leading to substitute offices being established in neighbouring countries,
such as the case in Syria.”
